So I have to admit, I spent the first 15 weeks of this pregnancy pinning and searching for all thing baby girl. I had picked my fabrics, I had picked my colors and I had even decided which bow and headband organizer I was going to use to organize all the handmade bows and headbands I was going to lovingly create for my little girl. I had one picture of a pegboard I found interesting "just in case" we ended up having a boy, but I was certain we weren't. After all, this pregnancy had been NOTHING like Walker's. I was sick, I was exhausted, I was sure I was growing a little girl. Well, I was wrong.
This peanut was definitely a boy and I was definitely (more than a little) disappointed. I grieved, I shopped, I reminded myself that I had to trust God's will, and He wants me to raise another boy. I then told Ryan we weren't taking baby #3 off the table, and I set off to find my inspiration for this sweet boy's room. I knew I wanted giraffes. I found some adorable murals and assigned the task of recreating one to Ryan. Then one night, while searching for fabric, I stumbled upon the piece de resistance. A beautiful, albeit expensive Safari quilt on Etsy. I had to have it. I couldn't have it. I had to have it! The room was nothing without it, so after a day or two of hemming and hawing, I said Happy Mother's Day to myself and bought my quilt.
Once it arrived the whole room just fell perfectly into place, and I really couldn't be happier with how it turned out. With the exception of the quilt, I would call this a budget friendly nursery. The majority of the furnishings and the curtains are recycled from Walker's Nursery. I made the throw pillow, crib skirt and lampshade with fabric that matched the quilt, and pretty much everything else was repurposed from other rooms in the house, or purchased at Ikea and Hobby Lobby.
I also made sure to find a way to work in a pegboard- the "just in case," and I am so glad I did. It adds so much personality, and I am loving the additional storage- and that elephant head. I knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it.
I am also very proud of my budget friendly cloth diaper storage cubes I purchased at Target. I love how colorful and fun my growing fluff stash makes the room as well.
Ryan's giraffe art turned out just as I had hoped. It's big and colorful, and I love how he got to put his own stamp on the room that I pretty much put together all on my own. He painted a birch tree mural on the wall in Walker's Room, but I was wanting something a little more relocatable this time around.
The shelves above the rocker are from Ikea. I created the two prints (along with the Wild World print above the dresser) on my computer and had them printed at Walgreens. I probably broke all sorts of copyright laws in the process, but I figure as long as I don't start selling them on Etsy or something, I am fairly safe,
The Elephant in the crib was a must have. He is huge and soft and so adorable. We are planning on taking our monthly photos with him... and the quilt, because it really should serve SOME purpose.
And there you have it folks. Baby's nursery is ready. It's beautiful and playful and serene all at the same time. I love to hide away in it and rock this growing belly and imagine what our son will look like. Will he look like his big brother? I'd be okay with that. Walker was an adorable baby (see picture on right bar). I can't wait to meet our son, to rock him and nurse him. I can't wait to see Walker flourish in the roll of Big Brother. I know he'll do great. I look forward to watching their love and friendship develop and grow.
So I'm not having a girl. I'm having a boy. A beautiful baby boy. God chose me... ME to raise two boys into men. It's not a burden, it's a blessing. I'm humbled by His faith in me, and it brings me great peace as we sit and trust God to bring our boy earth-side when the time is right.
